END OF TERM CELEBRATION AT THE CLIVE POOLS

We had so much fun at the Clive Pools for our end of term celebration.  We have all been demonstrating the 5 Mayfair Values in the playground for the whole term and we get to celebrate with a surprise fun day.  Mayfair School provides this celebration day at no cost to our whanau.  We are very lucky indeed!

At the end of term we also had a special Awesome Acorn celebration when we invited our parents over to celebrate in the achievement of our Year 1 students who are learning their Teddy Bear words.  These words are the first building block in our journey to "learn to read".  Without the ability to recognise these words reading is "gobbledy gook" for our tamariki - squiggles on a page.  As we are Year 2's we are mostly on the journey of "reading to learn" - therefore we decided to do a gorgeous dance for our parents.  From the applause it went down very well.  Unfortunately I was so busy modelling the dance I did not get any photos to the dancing, but I did get one before - and look at how gorgeous our tamariki are.  We had lunch afterwards - YUMMY!!!!

Fun Friday's continue and golly gosh, they go from messy to messier!!!  We have been making planets using paper machie - Miss T is not sure she will undertake this again.  We have put our second layer on and we now have........ shooting stars, space junk, a sun with an explosion spot, and some planets.  Phew!  We will be putting on our last layer soon - wish us luck!!!

As well as this we also found time to make corn fritters.  What was interesting about the corn fritters was the Feta Cheese.  One of our reading groups had read a story about "Dimitri's Lunch".  Dimitri's mother gives him feta, lettuce and tomato sandwiches for lunch and as you can imagine the children at school thinks his lunch stinks.  He gets embarrassed and doesn't want to eat his sandwiches at school - until his friend tries one and discovers that he likes the taste.  So ..... Miss T found some in her fridge on corn fritter day so bought it to school, and much to her surprise over three quarters of the class tried it and a third of the class added feta cheese to their corn fritter mix.  It is surprising what our tamariki will eat for others!!!

Emma made a bus.  During discovery time, Emma gathered the chairs together to make a bus.  She had a great time organising and gathering what she needed.  Well done Emma!
